The Alabama Crimson Tide had quite a few players decommit from their 2025 recruiting class and one of the more notable prospects has found his new home.
Five-star offensive tackle Ty Haywood announced during his National Signing Day ceremony on Wednesday that he will be signing with Michigan.
The Denton, Texas, native went into signing day as the last unsigned five-star recruit in ESPN’s rankings and is now bound for Ann Arbor. Haywood held offers from several powerhouse programs like Florida State, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M, but ultimately decided to commit to Alabama last July.
His commitment was a massive one for the Crimson Tide’s 2025 class and vaulted them up to No. 1 in On3 Sports’ rankings at the time. However, the alarm bells began to ring for Alabama when Haywood opted to not sign during the Early Signing Period in December.
That led to speculation that he would take his talents elsewhere and that was ultimately confirmed when he officially decommitted on January 13. Michigan was immediately cited as the favorite to land him and he made it official on Wednesday. The five-star has now joined the same class as elite quarterback prospect Bryce Underwood, whom he will be tasked with protecting from Big Ten defenders in the years to come.
Losing Haywood was a big blow to the Tide, as he was their highest rated decommit in the 2025 cycle. However, they did manage to secure the signatures of a pair of four-star offensive tackles in Jackson Lloyd out of Carmel, California, and Mal Waldrep out of Phenix City, Alabama. They also added some tackle depth in the transfer portal with the addition of Ball State’s Arkel Anugwom.
