On Monday, the New England Patriots added one player on such a deal, as they signed tight end/fullback Giovanni Ricci.
Ricci, 28, played collegiately at Western Michigan from 2015-19, earning All-MAC honors in both of his final two seasons. In 46 career games, he recorded 98 receptions for 1,134 yards and 11 touchdowns.
He went undrafted in 2020 and signed with the Carolina Panthers as a free agent. After four seasons, he signed with the Cleveland Browns, but he was released before the start of the regular season due to injury.
In 36 NFL games, Ricci has caught nine passes for 102 yards.
He joins Hunter Henry, Jaheim Bell and Jack Westover as New England’s tight ends currently on the roster with Austin Hooper set to hit the market himself.
