The Seahawks didn’t score a single touchdown on “Thursday Night Football,” but they’ll still be happy with the result of their Week 17 matchup.
Seattle is still fighting behind the Rams for the NFC West crown, which made its matchup against the Bears on Thursday night important for its postseason outlook. Luckily for the Seahawks, they escaped with a 6-3 win, as both teams struggled offensively and combined for 13 punts.
All nine of Thursday’s points came in the first half. Some rainy Chicago weather certainly played a role in the defensive showdown, but neither offense had much juice either. The Bears did make things interesting in the closing moments though, as Caleb Williams kept his team’s final drive alive in hopes of tying the matchup or taking the lead. Instead, he was picked off for the first time since October, ending the game after Chicago surrendered seven sacks.
Ultimately, it’s the result of Thursday’s win that mattered most for the Seahawks, not the fashion in which they reached that win. Seattle improved to 9-7, now tied in the win column with Los Angeles for the time being as a Week 18 contest between the two teams, a game that could potentially help decide the division, looms. First, though, the Seahawks will be hoping the Cardinals can pull off an upset win over the Rams later on in Week 17.
For the Bears, who have long been eliminated from playoff contention despite a 4-2 start to the season, the optimistic outlook of their Week 17 loss is that they likely improved their 2025 NFL Draft selection. Now 4-12 and on a 10-game losing streak, the Bears are in the final stages of a lost season — but fortunately, Williams did continue to flash stardom late in Thursday’s loss.
Neither quarterback reached the 200-yard passing mark, and both teams struggled on third down all night. Offense certainly wasn’t the storyline of Week 17’s Thursday night matchup — but the Seahawks’ critical win did keep their playoff hopes alive while snapping a two-game losing streak.
