Since losing the top free-agent slugger available, Brian Cashman is leaving no stone unturned this offseason.
After signing Max Fried and pulling off two blockbuster trades, the New York Yankees GM made it clear he is not done yet.
That includes pursuing a big power bat to replace slugger Juan Soto’s presence in the lineup. The Yankees have been linked to Anthony Santander since the beginning of the offseason.
The New York Post’s Dan Martin reported that the Yankees have remained in contact with the 30-year-old, switch-hitting outfielder.
Santander is one of the best free-agent options available to help the Yankees replace Soto’s power in the lineup. He hit .235 with 44 homers and 102 RBIs for the Orioles last season.
He’s considered a below-average defender. The Yankees have interest in Santander, but he is seeking a five-year deal in the area of $90 million, which could be a bit much for the Yankees.
The Yankees, however, are not the only ones interested in Santander. The Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays have also been linked to him.
The Yankees have also looked into Jurickson Profar, who was once considered the top prospect in baseball, as a possible filler for left field.
The 31-year old is a better defender and is coming off an All-Star year where he hit 280 with 24 homers and 85 RBI with the Padres.
NJ.com Randy Miller had a controversial suggestion about the Yankees’ left-field situation. He wrote that they could bring back Alex Verdugo on a one-year deal.
