Tragedy struck at the 2025 NFL Combine when former Texas tight end Gunnar Helm false-started on one of his 40-yard dash attempts and injured his ankle. Afterwards, Helm pushed through the pain to work his way through the drills and skills challenges.
With the injury, the Longhorn TE was only able to run a 4.84 in the 40, not very good for an athletic tight end like Helm.
After his disappointing day at the Combine, Helm had his ankle checked out and underwent an MRI, which showed he had suffered an ankle sprain. He even shared a few (fairly gruesome) pictures of the bruising and swelling.
All is not lost for the Texas tight end, though. The Longhorns are set to host their Pro Day on March 26, one last chance for players to prove their value ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Helm, who was clearly negatively affected by the sprained ankle throughout the drills at the Combine, announced that he will participate in Texas’ Pro Day and will rerun the 40-yard dash to try to improve his time.
