The Baltimore Orioles used the long ball and a resilient pitching performance to subdue the Tampa Bay Rays 5-3 on Sunday, July 20, 2025, in a game that was significantly delayed by rain. The victory at George M. Steinbrenner Field allowed the Orioles to snap a four-game losing streak and secure a split in the four-game series.

The Orioles’ offense started strong and delivered power throughout the contest:

  • Jackson Holliday wasted no time, leading off the game with his 13th solo home run of the season on the second pitch thrown by Rays starter Ryan Pepiot (6-8). The 373-foot blast set an immediate tone for Baltimore.
  • Alex Jackson opened a three-run third inning with his first home run of the season, adding to the Orioles’ lead.
  • Ryan O’Hearn continued the power display in the sixth inning with his 12th home run of the season.
  • Gunnar Henderson capped Baltimore’s scoring in the third inning with a crucial two-run double.

Orioles starting pitcher Trevor Rogers (3-1) delivered a solid outing, allowing just two runs on five hits over six innings while striking out three. He navigated the Rays’ lineup effectively before a two-hour, 36-minute rain delay halted play before the seventh inning.

After the lengthy delay, closer Felix Bautista allowed his second run in his last 17 appearances in the ninth inning but managed to escape a bases-loaded jam by striking out Junior Caminero, securing his 19th save of the season.

For the Rays, Junior Caminero had an RBI single in the third inning, and Danny Jansen hit a solo homer, his 11th of the season, in the fourth. Ryan Pepiot went six innings for Tampa Bay, giving up all five runs on six hits, while striking out eight.

In a notable moment in the third inning, Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino was ejected for the first time in his career after outfielder Ramón Laureano was tossed following a strikeout.

With the win, the Orioles move to 44-54 on the season. They will now travel to Cleveland to face the Guardians, with Tomoyuki Sugano (7-5, 4.44 ERA) expected to take the mound. The Rays, now 52-48, will host the Chicago White Sox on Monday, with Shane Baz (8-5, 4.17 ERA) scheduled to start.
