Phoenix has no clear direction for their big three moving forward. Bradley Beal is the odd man out of their failed superteam. Things could however, start trending upward for the Suns if they give Sacramento Kings guard Keon Ellis the tools to succeed in free agency.
The 6-4 guard has a team option for the upcoming season. If the Kings do not honor it, Ellis will become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
The 25-year-old is in the midst of a career year in Sacramento. Ellis is averaging 8.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.5 steals per contest for the Kings. The Stockton Kings call-up has made a name for himself as an elite three-point shooter. He ranks No. 7 in the league with his 43 percent shooting from distance. Ellis makes 1.7 trifectas per game.
Stuck in a crowded Kings lineup also featuring Malik Monk, Zach LaVine and seldom, DeMar DeRozan at shooting guard, Ellis would be wise to bet on himself to thrive in a new environment. The 6-6, 175-pound guard’s athleticism and defensive gifts, coupled with his sweet stroke make him a breakout candidate that could flourish in Phoenix.
