The NFL community is in mourning today after news broke that Cleveland Browns owner and business magnate Jimmy Haslam has died at age 70. The team confirmed his passing early this morning in an emotional statement that paid tribute to his leadership, philanthropy, and unshakeable commitment to the city of Cleveland.

 

Haslam, who purchased the Browns in 2012, was known for his hands-on ownership style and passionate support of the team through years of ups and downs. The Browns released a statement reading in part:

Fans gathered outside Cleveland Browns Stadium in tears, leaving flowers and team gear in tribute. Many shared stories of Haslam’s unexpected generosity—from paying for youth football programs to quietly covering medical expenses for team employees.

Former Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski, visibly emotional at a press conference, said: “Jimmy believed in us when no one else did. He loved this city with his whole heart.”
