Report: Browns refused to re-sign fan-favorite player because of Deshaun Watson

The Deshaun Watson contract is the opposite of a gift that keeps on giving – it’s a burden that keeps on taking. The best thing Watson has done for Cleveland is miss time for other quarterbacks to play and give them a better chance to win. Take last season, for example. The Browns won four of their last five games and got into the playoffs with an 11-6 record in large part due to the addition of Joe Flacco, who launched the Browns into the postseason.

In a recent look at the Browns’ issues from Jeremy Fowler and Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN, a source claims that Flacco wasn’t brought back after a terrific magic carpet ride to the playoffs because the Browns didn’t want him looking over Watson’s shoulder.

“I 100% believe that was a factor, the need to not have him hanging over Watson as he built his confidence,” the source said according to Fowler and Oyefusi.

The Browns have a lot to do this offseason, including finding a quarterback that they can both afford and build around to be competitive.
