Boston Red Sox fans have probably completely blocked that season from their memory, as they finished with a 24-36 record and in fifth place in the division during the shortened campaign.
So, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Robert Stock is an unfamiliar name for the fanbase, However, the 35-year-old who agreed to a minor-league deal with a camp invite (via. MassLive) has called Fenway Park home before.
Stock appeared in 10 games for Boston out of the bullpen, posting a 4.73 ERA, 1.950 WHIP and 6.8 K/9 over 13 1/3 innings.
Since then, he’s had stints with the Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, Doosan Bears (KBO), Milwaukee Brewers (Triple-A), Long Island Ducks (Atlanta League) and Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (Mexican League).
Stock made 19 starts in Mexico this past season, posting a 3.38 ERA in the regular season, and then, in winter ball, he had a 1.60 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 84 1/3 innings.
He’ll have an opportunity to earn a depth spot in either Boston or Worcester this Spring.
