During the beginning of the offseason, the Philadelphia Phillies made it known that third baseman Alec Bohm could be available.
Bohm was an All-Star in 2024 but had a rough second half, and his postseason performances over the past few years have been less than ideal.
For a Phillies team in a win-now situation, if they could get a better player in return for any trade package involving Bohm, it feels safe to say that Dave Dombrowski would pull the trigger.
The Boston Red Sox have a player in Rafael Devers who would be just that, but it’s still uncertain if the team would move him after his recent comments.
In a proposed trade from Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report, the Phillies and Red Sox would get together for a blockbuster deal. His trade pitch would send Devers to the Phillies for Nick Castellanos, Bohm, and young shortstop Aidan Miller.
“This is another basically AAV-neutral deal, as Castellanos and Bohm’s average salaries add up to a figure just $1.3 million below that of Devers. Which is helpful, because the Phillies’ payroll is already up $40 million,” Rymer wrote.
The Miller part is the most interesting of this scenario.
Many consider him one of the top prospects in Major League Baseball, but he’s still very young and is probably a few years away from making his big league debut.
If the Red Sox believe he could be a potential franchise guy with some of their other young talent, this could theoretically work.
However, trading Devers for the other two players would be a bit questionable.
