The Boston Red Sox are still in the hunt for a righty slugger to check off one of their boxes for the offseason, and this Red Sox insider thinks they have good odds to land one. According to insider Jen McCaffrey, the Sox have a 60/40 chance to land Silver Slugger and All-Star Teoscar Hernandez.
“There was a lot of interest last year, and it almost happened. But obviously, he ended up with the Dodgers. We thought he was gonna end up signing somewhere shortly after Soto because he was viewed as one of the next best guys…He’s got a good relationship with a lot of Red Sox people, and he loves Fenway. I’ll give it a little bit of an edge, and say 60/40”.
Hernandez is a top target for the Sox, and he has revealed the type of contract he wants. It’s not a bad contract either, so the Sox should just pay him and get it done.
Hopefully, this happens soon, so the Sox can move on to strengthening their bullpen and acquiring another starting pitcher.
