While the Boston Red Sox have landed their premiere ace in Garrett Crochet, they are still in the market for one more starter, and this proposed trade could solve that. In the trade, the Sox would land All-Star starting pitcher Pablo Lopez in Boston for the remainder of his contract, which would be three-years, $62.25 million.
This past season, Lopez had a 15-10 record, a 4.08 ERA, and 198 strikeouts. He also had K/9 of 9.6, and a BB/9 of 2.0.
The Red Sox will also receive pitcher Jorge Alcala and infielder Dameury Pena. In return, they would send Kutter Crawford and Brennan Bernandino to Minnesota.
This trade works due to the fact the Twins are possibly looking to reduce payroll in 2025, and getting rid of Lopez’s contract would be nice. They also would get a young arm in return for Crawford, and would retain a lot of control over his contract.
Should the Sox consider this deal? Probably. While Lopez has a high ERA, he strikes out a lot of people as well. Since the Sox have their ace already, Lopez would fit in at the three or four spot in the rotation nicely.
