Prince William and Princess Kate’s jokey moments during royal engagements went viral on TikTok. The Prince and Princess of Wales have been out of the limelight during their summer holiday, but fans have stayed busy sharing clips of the couple on social media.
One TikTok edit showed the couple in a series of lighthearted interactions while on royal visits and was shared with the caption: “Goofy ah royals.” It was liked 407,000 times and viewed 2.4 million times and began with a clip of the couple meeting wheelchair motocross competitor Lily Rice, then aged 14, during an event for Radio 1 Teen Heroes finalists at Kensington Palace in October 2018. Prince William said: “Someone told me you can do a back flip in a wheelchair. How on Earth can you do that, and secondly, how do you practice that? “How do you get to the point where you think to yourself, ‘Okay, here we go.
I’ve got to make it all the way around’?” The next clip showed William seemingly making a mess of painting a sculpture after Kate’s more delicate effort moments earlier. And a third showed William playing a “beer pong” style game and getting the ball in the cup the first time around.
The princess joked “you’ve done that before” during the visit to Scottish charity DAY1, in Inverness, in November 2023. Kate took several goes—while William joked “we’ll be here all day”—before she finally landed the ball in the cup. And in the fourth clip the couple played Pictionary over Zoom with girls from the Islamabad Model College for Girls during the COVID-19 pandemic in November 2020. Asked whether they liked drawing, Prince William replied:
“Catherine’s very good. I’m really bad.” Kate added: “You don’t practice enough.” One fan commented on the video “BACKFLIP IN A WHEELCHAIR?!?!” while another said: “Kate and William are really down-to-Earth and fun people.” Another wrote: “I WANNA SEE THE BACKFLIP???” Lily Rice demonstrated her incredible backflip and explained how she came to learn she could do it in a video for BBCNewsround in 2018. She said: “The backflip wasn’t really a target.
We kind of just arrived at the skatepark and I was like ‘I want to try a backflip.’ “I practiced into a foam pit first which is, like, it’s just a big ramp going up into a pit of foam basically, it kind of describes itself. And we moved on to a resi ramp which is a normal ramp made for quite some tricks. “Once I landed it I was really happy. I was ecstatic and I screamed.”
