The Philadelphia Phillies have been looking for a trade partner to move Alec Bohm following an All-Star season. The New York Yankees need help in the hot corner and could bring him to the Bronx.
While making predictions for the Yankees following the loss of Juan Soto, Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter predicted this trade that ships Alec Bohm from Philadelphia to New York:
- Phillies receive: left-handed pitcher Nestor Cortes, left-handed pitcher Brock Selvidge and outfielder Everson Pereira
- Yankees receive: third baseman Alec Bohm
Bohm is “on the trade block,” according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. This trade could solve a lot of the Phillies’ problems. Bohm was an All-Star for the first time in 2024 and his trade value is higher than ever. He struggled in the second half of the year, but his overall numbers are good.
“A change of scenery could serve him well, and with club control through the 2026 season, he represents more than just a rental addition,” wrote Reuter. “In return, the Yankees move a pitcher they have shopped in the past in Nestor Cortes, one of their better pitching prospects in Brock Selvidge and an out-of-options former top prospect in Everson Pereira.”
Pereira has not proven anything in the big leagues but could give the Phillies a look in centerfield where Johan Rojas struggled last year. Cortes could replace Taijuan Walker in the rotation and be a great backend option. The Phillies already have Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Christopher Sánchez and Ranger Suárez. Adding Cortes would make them dangerous on any given day.
Cortes will be a free agent after next season. He was an All-Star in 2022. Last season he had a 3.77 ERA in 30 starts. He was one strikeout shy of tying his career high of 163. He did however throw a career-high 174 1/3 innings.
