Could the Philadelphia Phillies pull off a blockbuster trade to add another superstar to town?
It’s too early to know at this point, but they at least have shown a level of interest in a possible move.
The St. Louis Cardinals seemingly are open for business and it has been reported that star third baseman Nolan Arenado has been given permission to seek a trade and speak to teams. He has three years left on his deal and is still owed $72 million.
The eight-time All-Star is available and the Phillies reportedly are one of the teams his agent Joel Wolfe has spoken with already, according to USA Today Sports’ Bob Nightengale.
“The St. Louis Cardinals have informed third baseman Nolan Arenado that they will do everything possible to trade him this winter, and have even granted permission to his agent to help facilitate a deal,” Nightengale said.
“Wolfe has directly spoken to several teams who have shown varying interest in Arenado, including the Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies, and Houston Astros. The (Los Angeles Dodgers), however, plan to have Max Muncy remain their starting third baseman.”
Philadelphia currently has All-Star Alec Bohm expected to be the team’s starting third baseman in 2025. There has been a lot of trade chatter about him so it’s unknown what Philadelphia’s plan is. But, landing someone like Arenado always could help.
