The Philadelphia Phillies are looking for upgrades for the team after an early postseason exit and are eyeing one of the top outfielders in baseball.
There have been a lot of rumors throughout the Winter Meetings about Houston Astros superstar Kyle Tucker. He is in line to make roughly $16 million in 2025 and will be a free agent afterward.
He’s a three-time All-Star, Gold Glove Award winner, and one of the top outfielders in baseball overall. Because of this, he will land a mammoth deal next offseason if he reaches free agency without an extension.
Tucker has been in trade rumors this week and the Phillies reportedly have shown interest in a move, according to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman.
“More and more, it is appearing as if the Astros are open to trading Kyle Tucker and the Yankees are among the teams most seriously pursuing the star outfielder, The Post has learned,” Sherman said. “The Yankees, though, might not be the most determined pursuer of Tucker as the Winter Meetings neared an end.
“The (Chicago Cubs) are seen as a strong player for the lefty-swinger and the (San Francisco Giants) are also involved in talks with the Astros. The Phillies also had been among the teams that at least inquired and tried to find a package that would work with the Astros.”
Tucker shined in 2024 despite playing just 78 games. He hit 23 home runs, drove in 49 runs, and slashed .289/.408/.585. If the Phillies somehow could land him, that could be the franchise-altering move Philadelphia needs to get over the hump.
