No Trade for Luis Robert Jr.? White Sox Surprise Everyone with Deadline Decision

Posted on August 8, 2025 by sportsmars60@gmail.com

The Chicago White Sox had hopes of moving former All-Star centerfielder Luis Robert Jr. by the trade deadline on Thursday.

Robert, 27, had an abysmal start to the season but has turned a corner in July, slashing .353/.441/.549 in 15 games.

While ESPN’s Buster Olney initially reported that trade discussions involving Robert were heating up, Mark Feinsand said on MLB Tonight that he doesn’t expect Robert to be moved in a shocking change of events.

“Not a lock, but certainly trending in that direction,” said Feinsand.

Teams like the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres have had interest in Robert, but after the Phillies acquired Harrison Bader, the bidding war seems to be down to the Mets and Padres.

The Mets need a lockdown centerfielder, and the Padres need help in left field. Though Feinsand believes a trade won’t commence, the trade deadline is crazy.

Robert’s overall numbers don’t spell superstar, but Robert has shown he is a five-tool player and a change of scenery to a playoff team could keep Robert trending upward.

He has 11 home runs and 43 RBI while slashing .213/.300/.353 in 88 games but has hit safely in 13 of his last 15 games.

The White Sox reportedly want a trade package that resembles Robert’s potential and if they don’t get that offer, they will hold onto him and pick up his $20 million club option.
