Kai Havertz has used one word to describe Arsenal’s decision to sign Raheem Sterling from Chelsea.

The Gunners completed a deadline-day move to sign Sterling from the Blues on loan for the remainder of the season. Sterling’s exit was granted after Chelsea signed Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United.

Sterling made his debut for Arsenal in the North London Derby victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. The England international made an appearance from the bench where he replaced Gabrel Martinelli in the 80th minute.

Havertz has experience playing alongside Sterling during the pair’s time at Chelsea. The Germany international had made 33 appearances for the Blues alongside Sterling during the duo’s time at Stamford Bridge and is looking forward to reuniting with the former Manchester City star in an Arsenal shirt this season.

“It’s incredible,” Havertz told Stadium Astro. “I had the joy to play with him [Sterling] at Chelsea. He’s an incredible player. If you see his stats in the Premier League, it’s outstanding.

“You see how much quality he brings to the team and I think we are all very happy to have him.”

Arsenal are next in action on Thursday night when they travel to face Atalanta in the first league phase fixture of the Champions League. After that, the Gunners go to the Etihad Stadium to take on leaders Man City in the Premier League in a game that could see Sterling take on his former club.

It remains to be seen when Mikel Arteta will hand a full debut to Sterling, but given the intense schedule that awaits, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that could come within the next two fixtures. Arsenal will also face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup, as well as Leicester City and Southampton in the Premier League before the next international break in early October.
