During the first five years of his NFL career as the star running back coming out of the backfield for the Las Vegas Raiders, Josh Jacobs has become one of the best players in the league at his position, and this offseason, he wanted to get paid like it.
Unfortunately, the Raiders and Jacobs were never able to see eye-to-eye on a new deal, as it always seemed like the two sides would part ways when the star running back hit NFL free agency, and that’s precisely what happened with the Green Bay Packers swooping in and giving him what he wanted.
However, once Jacobs officially became a free agent and could talk to other teams, it seems that there were a few other interested parties in his services, as the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Giants emerged as potential suitors.
With Jacobs developing a hatred for the Chiefs franchise as an arch-rival of the Raiders, he didn’t even consider going to Kansas City, but New York made a compelling offer, which was substantially more than the Packers were giving him, according to Dan Pompei of the New York Times.
“The Giants came on strong with an offer between $3 million and $4 million more than he eventually accepted. But Jacobs was turned off by the New York taxes, lifestyle, media and the artificial turf at MetLife Stadium,” Pompei said.
Even though the Raiders clearly didn’t value Jacobs the way he wanted to be valued, the Giants certainly were interested in him becoming their feature back in New York and helping get their team back on track offensively, as they also brought in rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers.
Despite not taking more money in New York, it seems as though Jacobs is in a good place with the Packers, who are expected to make some noise once again in the NFC with superstar quarterback Jordan Love leading the charge in Green Bay.
