Latest Arsenal injury news with a number of updates on David Raya emerging before the visit of Leicester to Emirates Stadium
Arsenal could be without goalkeeper David Raya for their Premier League clash against Leicester due to injury. The Spain international picked up the issue last weekend against Manchester City and as such missed the Carabao Cup victory against Bolton a few days later.
With summer signing Neto cup-tied, 16-year-old Jack Porter started the clash at Emirates Stadium and made a strong impression in the 5-1 victory. Regardless of whether or not Raya is deemed fit to start, he is expected to return to the bench with Neto available again.
Mikel Arteta remained coy on Raya’s fitness status on Friday with it confirmed a decision would be made on the day of the game. With that now having arrived, a final call is needed and it could be done with Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain in mind.
A new claim has since been made that suggests Arteta has already made up his mind and that Raya will not play. With that said, football.london has taken a look at everything there is to know surrounding his injury before the clash against Leicester.
New claims emerge
According to X user @ TikiTakaConnor, Raya was not spotted arriving at the team hotel with the rest of the Arsenal squad on Friday.
While not confirming his absence, it certainly suggests his thigh injury will keep him out of the Premier League clash against Leicester but all will be revealed at 1:45pm.
Arteta update
Mikel Arteta admitted on Friday that a decision would be made regarding Raya on the morning of the clash against Leicester. Speaking to the press, he said: “We have to wait another 24 hours. We have to wait 24 hours to see if it’s looking good or not that good.
“It’s not about a risk, it’s about a player being fit and available or not. When we have that clarity for Leicester, which is the main thing we’re thinking about at the moment, we will make that decision tomorrow.”
Arsenal statement
In the lead up to the Carabao Cup clash against Bolton, speculation was rife that Raya would be absent because of a minor injury.
Upon confirming that 16-year-old Jack Porter was in the starting XI, of Raya’s absence, Arsenal wrote on X: “David Raya misses out with a thigh issue.”
Injury hint
During the clash with Manchester City, Raya received treatment from Arsenal’s physios before going on to complete the game. As he exited Etihad Stadium, he was filmed with a bandage on his knee but also clearly hobbling which suggested there was damage elsewhere.
