In a stunning display of generosity and community commitment, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Will Howard has announced a $7.2 million personal investment to transform a historic property in Pittsburgh into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth.
The 24-year-old rising NFL star, who was recently drafted by the Steelers and is already capturing national attention for his poised leadership on and off the field, made the announcement early Monday morning in a press conference held at the future site of the shelter in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood
“This city has already given me so much,” Howard said, standing before a crowd of reporters and local leaders. “Now it’s my turn to give something back—to the kids who’ve been forgotten, who’ve fallen through the cracks. They deserve hope, and they deserve a home.”
A Lifeline for the Vulnerable
The shelter, which will be called “The Howard House,” is set to open its doors in early 2026. It will provide housing, mental health services, education support, job training, and mentorship to homeless youth aged 14 to 22. The facility will be run in partnership with local non-profit Hope Horizon Pittsburgh, an organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of youth homelessness.
The project will involve a complete renovation of a long-vacant 19th-century mansion, combining modern amenities with community spaces, classrooms, and therapeutic services—all designed to create a safe, nurturing environment.
A Personal Mission
Howard, who grew up in Pennsylvania and faced his own early life challenges, has long spoken about his desire to use football as a platform for impact. His personal connection to the cause was evident in his emotional remarks.
“When I was younger, there were moments we didn’t know where we were going to sleep,” Howard revealed. “I was lucky—I had people step up. Now I want to be that person for someone else.”
