The Los Angeles Dodgers removed Nick Nastrini from their 40-man roster and sent him outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City, per his transactions log.

 

The team had not previously announced Nastrini was designated for assignment, which created room on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster that now has one opening.

Nastrini returned to the organization when the Dodgers claimed him off waivers from the Miami Marlins. Noah Davis was DFA’d in order to make room for the addition of Nastrini, and he subsequently was traded to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for cash considerations.

The Dodgers drafted Nastrini out of UCLA in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft. He was signed for $500,000, which was above the slot value for the 131st pick ($430,800).

Nastrini’s first stint with the Dodgers came to an end when he was included in the trade to acquire Joe Kelly and Lance Lynn from the Chicago White Sox at the deadline in 2023. The Dodgers also parted with Trayce Thompson and Jordan Leasure in the deal.

Nastrini made his MLB debut with the White Sox in 2024, but struggled to the tune of an 0-7 record, 7.07 ERA and 1.91 WHIP in nine games (eight starts).

The Marlins claimed Nastrini off waivers on July 1, but he appeared in just one game for their Triple-A Jacksonville affiliate before getting designated for assignment just over a week later as the corresponding move to Miami claiming Tyler Zuber off waivers from the New York Mets.

Nastrini initially reported to Camelback Ranch after returning to the Dodgers organization and has yet to pitch in a game.

Why did Dodgers DFA Nick Nastrini?

Given the progress Blake Snell and Blake Treinen are making on their respective rehab assignments, the Dodgers will soon need to have room for their returns.

Treinen appears to be first who would come off the 60-day injured list as he’s made four appearances thus far. The latest of which came Thursday night. Snell is starting Sunday for the Oklahoma City Comets and likely would need to make another outing before getting activated.
