The AP Top 25 Poll was released Sunday morning. Georgia, which beat Texas in the SEC Championship Game in overtime, climbed up to No. 2 — up three spots from its Week 15 position at No. 5 — while their opponent was one of the biggest fallers. The Longhorns tumbled down to No. 4 from their previous week’s No. 2 rank after their 22-19 loss to the Bulldogs.
Of course, the AP Top 25 Poll is seeded differently from the College Football Playoff, which has Texas at No. 5 since they aren’t a conference champion and don’t get a first-round bye.
Clemson, the ACC conference champion, was also a big winner of the week, up five spots to No. 13 after a 34-31 cutthroat win against SMU. Army climbed five spots too, making its way to No. 19 after a win over Tulane.
As for some of the biggest fallers, UNLV fell 5 spots to No. 24 post-Mountain West Championship loss (7-21 vs. Boise State), SMU fell four spots to No. 12 post-ACC title loss, Iowa State fell two spots at No. 18 post-Big 12 title loss (19-45 v. Arizona State) and Penn State fell two spots post Big Ten Conference title loss (37-45 v. Oregon).
