One way or the other, the Las Vegas Raiders will have to address the edge rusher spot in 2025. No matter what, the Raiders need more depth, but they may also have to add a new starter opposite Maxx Crosby depending on what happens with one of their pending free agents.
A former third-round pick, Malcolm Koonce had a breakout season in 2023 before missing all of the 2024 season with a knee injury. Now, Koonce is slated to hit free agency, leaving his future up in the air.
If the Raiders need to replace Koonce, or if they simply want to go in a different direction, The 33rd Team’s Tyler Brooke suggests the team signs Los Angeles Chargers edge rusher, Joey Bosa.
“Bosa is a proven EDGE who is still in the middle of his prime as long as he can stay healthy, and the Raiders have plenty of money to spend if they want to add another pass rusher, regardless of their plans with Crosby’s future,” Brooke wrote.
Now, you might be wondering: isn’t Bosa under contract? The answer to that is yes, but there’s reason to believe the Chargers could cut him.
We got that idea from ESPN’s Dan Graziano, who is hearing that the most likely outcome for Bosa and the Chargers is a divorce via release, which would save Los Angeles a whopping $25 million in cap space.
