The 22-year-old appeared in 77 games for Double-A Portland last year, hitting .307 with an .950 OPS, eight home runs, 38 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. He was promoted to Triple-A Worcester late in the year, but he never played at Polar Park due to an injury.
Now, he’s healthy and looking to prove himself.
Recently, ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel ranked Meyer as the No. 4 prospect in baseball, behind Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Roki Sasaki, Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony and Minnesota Twins outfielder Walker Jenkins.
In his breakdown, McDaniel compared Meyer to a “lankier, lefty-hitting Willy Adames if it all clicks.”
Adames, 29, played his seventh professional season in 2024, appearing in 161 games for the Milwaukee Brewers. He hit .251 with a .794 OPS, 32 home runs, 112 RBIs and 21 stolen bases.
Those numbers would be great for Meyer, especially right out of the gate. Meyer should also be a better defender if he starts out at second base in 2025, as Adames finished last year with -16 defensive runs saves and 20 errors at shortstop.
