The 2024 College Football Playoff will be unlike any college postseason we’ve seen before. For the first time, teams will host first-round playoff games at their home stadiums, which have the makings for electric atmospheres at campuses across the country.
On Friday night, No. 7 Notre Dame took care of No. 10 Indiana at home, winning 27-17. Although the score suggests otherwise, this game was far from close. The Irish held a comfortable 27-3 lead late in the fourth quarter, and the Hoosiers scored their only two touchdowns of the night in the game’s final two minutes, recovering an onside kick after the first score.
The expanded 12-team playoff also means the postseason bracket has an extra eight games compared to the four-team playoff system that existed from 2014-2023. The new bracket includes first-round byes for the top four conference champions. This year, those teams are No. 1 Oregon from the Big Ten, No. 2 Georgia from the SEC, No. 3 Boise State from the Mountain West and the Big 12’s No. 4 Arizona State.
Just like a typical bracket, teams that win their first-round games will move on to the second round of matchups. In the 12-team playoff, the quarterfinals will incorporate the major New Year’s Six bowl games, such as the Peach, Fiesta, Sugar, etc.
Let’s take a look at which team the Fighting Irish will play next.
