While the Boston Red Sox have made several pitching acquisitions this offseason, they have only gotten one top-of-rotation-starter in Garrett Crochet. Some fans think the Sox will slack off after getting him, but one Sox insider is not so sure. Jen McCaffrey says that the Sox are still looking for top starters even after their acquisitions of Crochet and Patrick Sandoval.
“The 28-year-old Sandoval, who had Tommy John surgery in June and is still rehabbing, is expected to be ready some time in the second half of the season. The Red Sox are still exploring adding top-of-the-rotation starters to their current mix, but Sandoval’s addition further builds out the club’s depth”.
Since Sandoval won’t be ready till late 2025 or the start of the 2026 season, it makes sense to find another starter.
Some of the free agent aces left on the board include Corbin Burnes, Roki Sasaki, Jack Flaherty, and Walker Buehler. If the Sox could land any of these guys, it would be considered a huge win for the team.
Hopefully the Sox get a guy like Burnes or Sasaki, but Flaherty and Buehler would also be almost as good.
