The Philadelphia Phillies should be an interesting team to watch this offseason. They have said that they are willing to shake things up.
This includes putting both Nick Castellanos and Alec Bohm on the trading block. Even left-hander Ranger Suarez is reportedly being shopped.
Suarez is entering the final year of his contract with Philadelphia and could bring back a solid haul, as evidenced by the haul the Toronto Blue Jays brought back for Yusei Kikuchi at the trade deadline this past season.
However, Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report believes Philadelphia will ultimately hold on to the veteran left-hander.
“The Phillies almost certainly won’t trade Suárez unless they get someone who can help them now. To this end, an ideal trade would involve a center fielder going to Philly,” Rymer wrote.
The 29-year-old made 27 starts with the Phillies in 2024 and was one of their most consistent starting pitchers. In those starts, he went 12-8 with a 3.46 ERA, pitching 150 2/3 innings, striking out 145 batters, posting a 1.20 WHIP and a 2.6 WAR.
If he stays healthy, he should remain a viable part of the Phillies rotation. But it might be best if the Phillies keep him, even though they already have Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola and Christopher Sanchez in their rotation.
Suarez can be trusted in postseason games, and the Phillies are going to need that if they want to make a deep run into October in 2025. It will certainly be interesting to see what they decide to do with their star left-hander as the offseason progresses.
