The Philadelphia Phillies are looking to shake up their roster this winter. With that in mind, there aren’t very many players that are completely safe for the 2025 season.
Players like Bryce Harper and Trea Turner probably are, as well as the top few pitchers, but beyond that, Philadelphia is listening to offers. One player the Phillies are rumored to be listening to offers on is All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm. Bohm is projected to land a seven-year, $142 million deal when he hits free agency after the 2026 season. He’s coming off a season where he slashed .280/.332/.448 with 44 doubles. FanSided’s Christopher Kline expects the Phillies to field offers and eventually trade Bohm this winter.
“The Phillies want Alex Bregman or Willy Adames to play third base, which means getting rid of Alec Bohm. The 28-year-old is coming off of his first All-Star berth, but Bohm’s late-season collapse put Philadelphia in an impossible position once the playoffs arrived,” Kline wrote. “Rob Thomson even benched Bohm for a brief moment in the NLDS.
His swing was completely out of whack when the Phillies needed it most.” If the Phillies can land one of the few third basemen in the league that’s clearly better than Bohm, then trading him doesn’t sound like a bad idea. If the Phillies can move Bohm for an ace-caliber starting pitcher and then fill the hole at third with a decent player, then trading him could make sense.
But Philadelphia is playing quite a dangerous game here. If the Phillies move Bohm and don’t get the right return, they could set their team back a year or two while the championship window is open.
