The latest Arsenal news as youngster Ethan Nwaneri continues his breakthrough season at the Emirates Stadium – and is shining on the international stage too.
Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri is enjoying a breakthrough season at the Emirates Stadium. He has continued to impress on the international stage, too, during October’s ongoing break.
The 17-year-old has been in and around the first-team so far this season. He has made two substitute appearances against Tottenham and Leicester, and scored his first two goals for the club with a brace in the 5-1 win over Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup last month.
Nwaneri has been away with England U19s in October’s international break, where he’s played three games for the Three Lions. The teenager was on the score-sheet in a 2-1 defeat against Portugal on Wednesday.
He then came on as a substitute and played the final 25 minutes of their 4-1 win over the Netherlands on Saturday. Nwaneri and England were back in action on Tuesday as they took on France in Marbella.
The Arsenal starlet wore their captain’s armband and opened the scoring after just 10 minutes after cutting in from the right and finishing from 20 yards out. Nwaneri was replaced by Chelsea’s Tyrique George, after 68 minutes, with England ending up 4-2 winners.
He will, no doubt, be hoping that Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has been watching his performances for England closely ahead of the impending return to Premier League action. Doubts around the fitness of Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli could potentially give the youngster a chance to make his first ever start in the Premier League sooner rather than later, too.
Arsenal return to domestic action on Saturday when they play AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium (5.30pm). The Gunners go into that game in third position in the standings – one point behind Liverpool.
