The Brazilian winger was on the scoresheet for the Gunners in their recent win over Southampton
Arsenal legend Ian Wright and Riccardo Calafiori were among the Gunners faithful to send messages of support to Gabriel Martinelli after the Brazilian winger’s display against Southampton.
The 23-year-old continued his rich vein of form in the final third with a goal against the Saints, which put Mikel Arteta’s side in the driving seat. Cameron Archer’s opening goal of the game was cancelled out by Kai Havertz, before Martinelli struck, with Bukayo Saka wrapping up all three points for the Gunners in the final few minutes of the game.
Martinelli has four goal involvements in his last three Premier League fixtures, with the Brazilian getting back to his best. The Arsenal winger notched an assist against Manchester City, setting up Calafiori for his thunderous equaliser at the Etihad, before grabbing a goal and an assist against Leicester City.
Taking to social media after the game, Martinelli shared an image of him celebrating his goal at the Emirates, writing: “Winning energy heading into the international break.”
Calafiori responded with ‘easy eh’ while club legend Wright replied with love hearts and and bicep emoji. Jurrien Timber also commented heart emojis on the photo.
Martinelli will now jet off on international duty with Brazil having forced his way back into the international set-up. The winger played a bit part role in Brazil’s Copa America tournament earlier this summer, before being dropped entirely for September’s recent fixtures.
Brazil are set to take on Chile and Peru as they look to get their World Cup qualifying campaign back on track having won just three of their eight qualifying games so far.
