Arsenal arguably have a number of sellable assets, some of whom could still be shown the door before the end of September
Arsenal drummed up around £70million on player sales this summer, helping the club record a net spend of just about £22m. According to Transfermarkt, this places the Gunners tenth within this summer’s Premier League spending table – but there’s still a chance to climb the ranks.
While deadline day passed on Friday for English clubs, some European markets stayed open across the weekend. Only on Monday did the Portuguese, Dutch and Saudi transfer windows close with the Turkish market shutting on September 18.
Arsenal have not offloaded anyone since Friday but, with one league still accepting transfer arrivals for another ten days, sporting chief Edu might look to further balance the books. The last time the club sold a player directly to Turkey was Lucas Torreira in 2022, when he joined Galatasaray.
Nicolas Pepe joined Trabzonspor last summer but only as a free agent after his Arsenal contract expired. Mikel Arteta still has a number of sellable assets in his squad.
Question marks hang over the long-term future of Thomas Partey. The Ghanian was tipped for an exit this summer but was kept on as Fabio Vieira secured a season-long loan back at former club Porto.
An exit to Turkey is seems increasingly unlikely given the injury to Mikel Merino, who damaged his shoulder in his maiden training session and now faces weeks on the sidelines. Declan Rice’s red card against Brighton & Hove Albion means Partey is almost certain due to start against Tottenham after the international break, having begun every match so far.
Contrastingly, Jakub Kiwior might be looking at where he is going to get minutes. The Poland international is yet to play this season having seen Jurrien Timber return from injury and Riccardo Calafiori’s arrival push him down both the left-back and centre-back selection list.
If Arsenal are to sell to Turkey, perhaps it is Kiwior who is most likely to leave given Kieran Tierney – even further down the full-back pecking order – is injured. The Gunners already indicated he was surplus to requirements in last year’s loan deal to Real Sociedad.
The defender still has two years left on his contract and would still fetch a decent sum if sold, albeit he is not expected to return before the Turkish window shuts. The likelihood is that no-one is offloaded within the coming days but while the Turkish window remains open, Super Lig clubs could yet tempt fate by making enquiries and approaches.
