To this point, they have a few moves waiting to become official, including signing former Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million deal.
Fields is set to replace Aaron Rodgers as the team’s starting quarterback. However, after they let Davante Adams go and sign with the Los Angeles Rams, the former first-round pick will need another weapon to throw to in 2025.
On Wednesday, NJ.com’s Andy Vasquez listed free agent wide receiver Amari Cooper as one of their best options left on the market.
“The Jets need a receiver and Cooper is the best one available on the market – and the Jets learned first-hand in Buffalo next year he’s still capable of making big-time plays,” Vazquez wrote.
Cooper, 30, played collegiately at Alabama from 2012-14, earning All-SEC and All-American honors once and winning a national championship before the then-Oakland Raiders selected him with the fourth overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft.
Over the last 10 seasons, Cooper has also spent time with the Dallas Cowboys (2018-21), Cleveland Browns (2022-24) and Buffalo Bills (2024), making five Pro Bowls during that time.
Cooper started off last year in Cleveland, catching 24 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns in his first six games. However, he was then traded to Buffalo and caught another 20 passes for 297 yards and two scores in his final eight with the AFC East champions.
Pro Football Focus gave Cooper a 68.3 overall grade in 2024, ranking him 61st of the 98 qualified NFL wide receivers. He also received a 69.0 receiving grade.
Cooper had arguably the worst season of his career in 2024, but he could certainly bounce back in the right situation, and being able to play in the same offense as 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson and dynamic running back Breece Hall may just be exactly what he needs to do just that.
